World Diabetes Day 2025 Celebrated by Department of Biotechnology, CCT, CGC Landran

The Department of Biotechnology, Chandigarh College of Technology, CGC Landran, Mohali, in collaboration with LIVASA Hospital, Mohali, observed World Diabetes Day 2025 with great enthusiasm and awareness. The celebration featured an expert talk by Dr. Akanksha Gautam, MBBS, MD, DM (Endocrinology) from LIVASA Hospital, Mohali. Dr. Gautam delivered an insightful and interactive session on “Diabetes Awareness: Myths vs Facts,” highlighting common misconceptions and providing scientific clarity on lifestyle, diet, and treatment associated with diabetes. Her engaging talk motivated students and faculty to adopt healthier habits and spread awareness in their communities. In addition to the expert session, a free medical camp was organized by LIVASA Hospital, Mohali, for blood sugar and blood pressure checkups. Dr. Amritpal Singh, Physician at LIVASA Hospital, provided valuable consultations and health advice to participants. The camp received an overwhelming response from faculty, staff, and students, emphasizing the importance of regular health screening in preventing and managing diabetes.

To further engage students and foster creative expression, the Department of Biotechnology hosted a Poster Making Competition and a Quiz Competition. Students showcased their artistic talents by creating informative posters on diabetes, while the quiz tested their knowledge of diabetes biology, prevention, and management. Enthusiastic participation made the competitions a fun and educational experience, with winners receiving well-deserved prizes. In the Quiz Competition, the first prize was secured by Aditi Rawat (B.Sc. Biotech, Semester 1), the second position was achieved by Chanda Bind (M.Sc. Biotech, Semester 1), and the third position was earned by Guriya Sharma (B.Sc. Biotech, Semester 1). In the Poster Making Competition, the first position went to Palakpreet Kaur (B.Sc. Biotech, Semester 3), the second position to Shiwangi Sabharwal (M.Sc. Biotech, Semester 3), and the third position to Pallavi Rathour (B.Sc. Biotech, Semester 1). The event successfully promoted awareness about diabetes and reinforced the role of youth in spreading health literacy and combating lifestyle-related diseases.
