WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK 2025 CELEBRATION

WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK 2025 CELEBRATION

As a part of World Breastfeeding Week (1st–7th August), the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics organized a guest lecture on August 7, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. in the Seminar Hall, Block 5. The session was graced by Dr. Anmol Sidhu, Pediatrician at Livasa Hospital, Mohali.

Dr. Sidhu delivered an insightful lecture on the significance of breastfeeding in the early months of life, emphasizing its nutritional, emotional, and immunological benefits for both mother and child. She discussed the barriers to effective breastfeeding and strategies to create a sustainable support system for lactating mothers through family, community, and healthcare workers. The interactive session also addressed commonly held myths around breastfeeding, clarifying doubts raised by students.

Nutrition Camp and Recipe Demonstration

In parallel with the guest lecture, a Nutrition Camp was organized by the students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Nutrition and Dietetics to raise awareness about maternal nutrition and demonstrate healthy recipes designed specifically for lactating mothers.

Two nutritious recipes were prepared and displayed:

Golden Laddu

  • Ingredients: Roasted besan (gram flour), ghee, jaggery, gond (edible gum), almonds, flaxseeds, and turmeric.
  • Nutritional Significance: Rich in energy, iron, calcium, protein, and omega-3 fatty acids, these laddus support lactation, strengthen immunity, and aid postpartum recovery.
  • Nutri-Crackers

  • Ingredients: Ragi flour, oats, ajwain, sesame seeds, rock salt, and cold-pressed oil.
  • Nutritional Significance: These crackers are high in calcium and fiber, supporting digestion and milk production in lactating mothers.
  • Students explained the health benefits of each ingredient used in the recipes and distributed samples among attendees, including faculty members, students, and healthcare visitors. Informative posters and myth-busting charts were also displayed as part of the nutrition awareness activity.
