The Department of Biotechnology, CCT, in collaboration with the CGC-RISE Department, CGC Landran, organized a one-day workshop on “The Silent Pandemic: Understanding Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)” to raise awareness among students about the escalating threat of AMR.
The event was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Dheerendra Kumar, Assistant Director, AMR Division, National Centre for Disease Control, Delhi; Prof. Neha Sharma, Dean Research, CGC; Dr. Palki Sahib Kaur, Director-Principal, CCT; and Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Head, Department of Biotechnology.
Prof. (Dr.) Dheerendra Kumar presented an insightful overview of AMR, covering detection strategies and the crucial role of bioinformatics tools in its identification and surveillance. Dr. Sonal, Consultant in Pulmonary Medicine at Livasa Hospital, Mohali, shared clinical perspectives and case studies, stressing the importance of responsible antibiotic use and the real-world impact of AMR on patient care.
The workshop also included engaging competitions to encourage student participation. In the Poster Making Competition, first prize went to Ms. Shivangi Sabarwal (M.Sc. Biotechnology, Semester III), second to Ms. Palakpreet Kaur, and third to Ms. Deepika (B.Sc. Biotechnology, Semester III). In the Mind Speak Competition, Mr. Anuneet (B.Sc. Semester V) secured first place, followed by Ms. Sargam (M.Sc. Biotechnology, Semester III) and Mr. Harsh (B.Sc. Biotechnology, Semester I).
The event concluded on an inspiring note, equipping participants with valuable insights, a deeper understanding of AMR, and a renewed commitment to its prevention and control.
