As part of the induction program for newly admitted students of Nutrition and Dietetics, a highly engaging and informative guest lecture was conducted by Mr. Arshinder, a renowned Sports Nutritionist. The session centred around “Sports Nutrition and Health.”
Mr. Arshinder began the lecture by introducing the foundational importance of macronutrients in an athlete's diet. He emphasized that carbohydrates are the primary fuel source for physical activity, providing the necessary energy for endurance and strength-based performances. Proteins, he explained, are essential for muscle repair and recovery, especially after intense training sessions. He also highlighted the role of healthy fats in maintaining hormonal balance and supporting long-term energy needs.
The session further explored the importance of hydration and electrolyte balance, which are often underestimated yet critical for maintaining stamina, reducing fatigue, and preventing muscle cramps. Mr. Arshinder provided valuable insights into the timing and composition of pre- and post-workout meals, stressing how a well-planned nutritional routine can significantly improve performance and speed up recovery.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A round, where students enthusiastically participated, reflecting their curiosity and eagerness to learn.
