The Department of Biotechnology, Chandigarh College of Technology (CCT), Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran, proudly announces that a student-driven biotechnology innovation by Ms. Deepanshi (M.Sc. Biotechnology, Batch 2022–24) has received national-level recognition for its contribution to sustainable development. The innovation, based on mycelium-enabled biotechnology for converting agricultural crop residue into biodegradable and eco-friendly alternatives, addresses critical challenges such as stubble burning and agri-waste management. The project was showcased at the 5th National Conference of Chief Secretaries, organized by the Government of India, New Delhi, highlighting the role of biotechnology in sustainability and circular bioeconomy
In recognition of its impact and innovation potential, the project was awarded the NITI Aayog Community Innovator Fellowship with a grant of ?2 lakhs. The innovation also achieved national acceptance, placing Ms. Deepanshi among the top two innovators from Punjab. Notably, only one innovation from Punjab was showcased at the national platform, while the remaining innovations represented institutions from the southern region. As a mark of this achievement, the innovation was featured on the NITI Aayog Wall of Innovation, and the innovator was conferred a Graduation Certificate by NITI Aayog.
The initiative received appreciation from policy makers, senior administrators, and experts from agriculture and sustainability sectors, recognizing its potential impact on environmental protection and green entrepreneurship. Such national-level recognition reaffirms the CGC’s commitment to innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable biotechnology solutions, contributing meaningfully to India’s vision of a greener and more sustainable future.
