Department of Biotechnology, CCT established in year 2006, a premier institution of CGC is academically responsive to the requirements of the challenging educational and Scientific research world. CGC offers BSc and MSc courses in Biotechnology. The Institute has been at the forefront of providing education in a highly professional set up, adhering to global standards and setting benchmarks for the industry. The department has dedicated research laboratories of Molecular Biology, Industrial Biotechnology, Plant Tissue Culture, Microbiology, Bioinformatics, and Biochemistry. Department of Biotechnology has set-up a unique laboratory of Animal Cell Culture Technology which is focused at basic and applied research in biological sciences. CGC is recognized as Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.

It has emerged to be the leader in unique learning methods, path breaking researches and grooming personality of the students. This is reflected in the almost 100% placement record for all eligible students.

About Association of Microbiologists of India

Association of Microbiologists of India (AMI) was established in 1939 and is one of the largest academic bodies in Asian region. AMI (Chandigarh Unit) is one of constituent unit having more than 300 members. The mission of the unit is to advance microbiological sciences through the pursuit of scientific knowledge and dissemination of the results of fundamental and applied research. The unit conducts academic activities such as organizing seminars, symposia, conferences, outreach programs, public awareness programs related with biotechnology and microbiology for the benefits of the researchers of the region.


The main objective of the conference is to provide an opportunity to faculty, research scholars, post-graduate and undergraduate students of the institute and nearby institutes to interact with scientists and industry personnel to get inspiration to join: research in the emerging and innovative areas of Biotechnology. The motivation is not only the recent scientific progress but also the new challenges of this exciting, strongly interdisciplinary field of science and engineering in research and industry.


Track 1 – Medical Biotechnology

Research in Cancer Biology, infectious diseases, diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases & research in complimentary and alternative system of medicine (CAM).

Track 2 – Industrial Biotechnology

Microbial Biotechnology, Fermentation Technology, Enzyme engineering, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Green Technology, Biosensors, Nano Biotechnology, Biosurfactants, Bioleaching- agents & Biofertilizers.

Track 3 – Agriculture Biotechnology

Improvement of shelf life, nutrition enhancement, edible oils, vitamin enrichment, bioremediation and toxin reduction & ethical issues, GMPs.

Track 4 – Animal Biotechnology & Stem Cell Technology

Gene therapy, Stem cell in treatment, Regeneration, Somatic cell nuclear transfer, GMO, Dairy Technology, Molecular Cloning, Proteomics and Genomics, etc.


You all are invited to submit abstracts of your scientific endeavors for oral/poster presentations (250-300 words) by e-mail on

Abstract should be sent as soft copy in MS word format (Times new Roman, font size 12, line spacing 1.5) with capital and bold face title and headings. Presenting author’s name should be in bold.

Each abstract should be structured which include:

Introduction, experimental methods, result and discussion, conclusion and limited relevant references.

Sukhna Lake Chandigarh is a reservoir at the foothills of the Himalayas, the Shivalik hills. Sukhna is an inseparable part of the city of Chandigarh and is a sanctuary for many exotic migratory birds. It has been declared as a protected national wetland by the Government of India.


The Rock Garden is a Sculpture garden in Chandigarh, also known as Nek Chand’s Rock Garden after its founder Nek Chand .Today it is spread over an area of forty-acres (160,000 m2), it is completely built of industrial & home waste and thrown-away items.


Zakir Hussain Rose Garden, is a botanical garden located in Chandigarh and spread over 30 acres (120,000 m2) of land, with 50,000 rose-bushes of 1600 different species. The` garden has the distinction of being Asia’s largest .
