The National Cadet Corps (India) was formed under NCC Act of 1948 and is open to school and college students on voluntary basis. The Cadets are given basic military training in small arms and parades. The motto of NCC is "Unity and Discipline".
CGC is affiliated with 14 Pb Battalion which is under the command of Col. A.K. Vohra.
NCC unit (Army wing) at CGC is functional under the Leadership of Lt (Dr.) Aarti Mahendru (Gold medal in Overall excellence in leadership and Officers like qualities at OTA, Gwalior in PRCN-80)
Aim
1. To develop qualities of Character, Courage, Comradeship, Discipline, Leadership, Secular Outlook, Spirit of Adventure and the ideals of Selfless Service amongst the Youth of the Country.
2. To Create a Human Resource of Organized, Trained and Motivated Youth, to Provide Leadership in all Walks of life and be Always Available for the Service of the Nation.
3. To Provide a Suitable Environment to Motivate the Youth to Take Up a Career in the Armed Forces.
Certificates
Senior Division and Senior Wing: Cadets recruited from colleges fall under Senior Division and are under the command of Associated NCC Officer (ANO).
C-Certificate is the highest recognition of training and qualification of a Senior NCC cadet
B-Certificate is the initial recognition of training and qualification of a Senior NCC cadet
NCC Activities
Focus is on instilling discipline in the souls of the cadets, besides fostering healthy competition for the ranks, while keeping the greater interest of the nation in mind to create prospective officers for the Armed Forces. The National Cadet Corps is the only organization of its kind, which imparts Leadership, Discipline, Integration, Adventure, Military, Physical and Community Development training to over 13 lakhs youth of the country.
Types of Camps:* Republic Day Camp (RDC),Basic Leadership Camp(BLC),Army Attachment Camp(AAC),Annual Training Camps (ATC),Thal Sainik Camp ( TSC),Advance Leadership Camps (ALC),National Integration Camps (NIC),Rock Climbing Camps (RCC),All India Trekking Camps,Special National Integration camps (SNIC)
Benefits
Various Incentives are provided by the central Government to Cadets with NCC 'B' & 'C' certificate holders for recruitment in the ranks in the Defense Forces.
NCC Special Entry Scheme for SD Wings graduates in OTA in group 19-25 years with 50% marks, through DDG of states for direct interview (SSB) every year. The Cadets are exempted from CDS examination conducted by UPSC.
Activities and Camps 2011 - 2012
Activities
- Kargil Vijay Diwas celebration on 26 July, 2011 in honour & remembrance of Kargil War's Heroes.
- Independence Day celebrated on 15 August, 2011 to commemorate its independence from British rule and its birth as a sovereign nation in 1947.
- NCC celebrated its Raising Day on 26 November.2011. Unprivileged children were distributed and an attempt was made to add some happy moments to them.
- Flag hoisting Ceremony took place on 26th January, 2011.
- NCC cadets participated on 17th march, 2011 for convocation ceremony.
Camp Achievements
- NIC (17.6.11 to 28.6.11):
o 2 Gold medals in Cultural and sports,
o 1 Silver Medal in Essay Writing Competition.
- ATC ( 25.6.11 to 4.7.11):
o 1st position in firing and Group Song.
o Participation in Quarter guard
- Pre-TSC (28.7.11 to 6.8.11):
o 1st position in Firing competition (1cm group) and Map Reading by Cadet Lovepreet ,
o Obstacle clearing by Cadet AMIT in 23 sec.,
o Scored 85/100 in Written Test of all subjects by both cadets,
o Cadets selected for next advance camp at YAMUNA NAGAR.
- ATC (28.10.11 to 4.11.11):
o 1st position in Firing competition,
o Gold medal as captain of Bhangra team (Manraj Sidhu),
o 1st prize in Volley ball Competiton (Beta Company)
o Second prize in solo- singing, Special prize as coordinator (Mandeep kaur---MCA),
o Lt (Dr). Aarti Mahendru (OIC) OF DELTA COMPANY bagged 1st prize in LINE-AREA COMPETITION & IN DRILL COMPETION.
- RD selection camp (8.12.2011 - 17.12.2011):
o Participation in Quarter Guard in Patiala Group.
Activities and Camps 2010 - 2011
Activities
- Anti- drug Pledge taken by NCC cadets as mark of NCC day on 18th November, 2010.
- NCC cadets participated in Pulse Polio Immunization drive on 27/2/2011 and administered polio drops to children below 5 at Landran Chowk.
Camps
1. Seventeen CGC cadets attended "Combined Annual Training Camp" (Senior Div.) held at Khuda Lahora, Chandigarh 26th October, 2010- 4th November, 2010 and same number of cadets attended "Combined Annual Training Camp" (Senior Div.) held at Govt Senior Secondary, Nariangarh from 2nd January, 2011- 11th January, 2011.
Camp Achievements
- Three girl cadets were selected in quarter guard, Surbhi Dhingra,(B. Tech), Charanjit kaur (MCA), Harmilan Kaur (B. Tech.) in Nov. 2010.
- Bagged trophy for Quarter Guard in Nov. 2010.
- Navneet kumar (MCA) bagged Gold Medal for "Best cadet Award in CATC-103" In January, 2011.
- Pranita Sharma (B. Tech) bagged Bronze medal in Firing Competition in January, 2011.
- Cadet Shikha (B. Tech.)was selected in piloting, Nov. 2011.
- Three CGC girls were in Quarter Guard in Jan, 2011.
