Department of  Students` Welfare

The Department of Students’ Welfare provides opportunities, adequate scope and amenities for all round development of personality and leadership qualities among the students. Students contribute effectively in the management of various cultural & literary activities like hostels, food services, games and sports, and professional societies like NSS, Arts Club, Alumni Association and Student Counseling Cell under the guidance of Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW).

Every college of CGC has a professional society, each one working for the realization of the aims of Students Welfare i.e. the advancement of the professional skills of the students. These societies coordinate different literary and cultural activities held at various levels for honing the skills of the students. Professional lectures by experts, contests, debates, paper reading & essay writing competitions, scientific expositions and various cultural activities are organized in order to provide golden opportunities to the students to breed their hidden talent.

The members of the society elect their own office bearers who are responsible for the organization of different type of activities, under the valuable guidance of DSW.

Facilities Provided to the Students:

Scholarship Policy (Financial Aid)

·     Merit Scholarship

All the students, without any kind of discrimination, are given incentives (in the form of cash prizes) based upon their semester result for excelling in their respective classes.

As per the policy, the students having secured more than 80% marks in their PTU theory examinations are awarded cash prizes as per the given policy:

Sports Scholarship

The students who bag positions in the University Sports Tournaments with gold, silver or bronze medals are given cash prizes worth Rs. 5000/-, Rs. 3000/- & Rs. 2000/-respectively.

·     Concession for Siblings

The college offers fee concession to the siblings studying in any institution of Chandigarh Group of Colleges. We provide 10% concession on the tuition fees in each semester to the elder one for whole duration of the course.

·    Book Bank Facility

Books play a vital role in every field of education. The college has the latest and the best books, magazines, journals, audio-visual aids for the students and faculty members as well. The book bank of the college library provides free of cost books (for the whole semester) to the students who have topped their respective Departments.

·   Fees Policy

The students have to deposit yearly fees in two installments i.e. in the even and the odd semester. The dates for the deposition of the fee in these semesters are:

Ø      30th April --In the odd semester

Ø      30th Nov. -- In the even semester

·    The Mode of Payment

The payment of the fees can be done directly either in the institution’s Accounts Office or at the counter of Punjab National Bank, Landran (Mohali) Branch set up within the campus. However, for the convenience of parents, the bank is having the facility of Centralized Banking Solutions (CBS) through which the parents can deposit the fees of their wards from any where in India.

Coaching / Extra Classes Facilities

Some extra classes are also arranged from time to time for the meritorious students; for the students who are not able to cope up with their syllabi; to those who need extra time & help from the teachers; and also to the late admission cases (if any).

Physical Education

Striking emphasis is laid on games and sports to keep the students physically efficient, mentally alert, morally sound and socially well behaved. The Department, with noticeable contribution of the students, aims at building a proper atmosphere for the same by organizing various games and sports like Cricket, Basket Ball, Badminton, Football, Volley Ball, Indoor Games Table Tennis, Weight Lifting & Power Lifting, Gymnastics, etc. The campus keeps itself fully equipped with every type of sports material for the college teams and other interested students.

Hostels                                                                                                                                 

Within the campus, there are separate girls’ and boys’ hostels with attached mess. Special attention is paid to provide healthy & hygienic food and also to the maintenance of discipline. Apart from well furnished and spacious rooms, the students are also provided with a common room having a colored T.V & cable facility, internet, music room, a room for indoor games and a library with a collection of good books, magazines, news papers, etc. The hostels also have well-maintained gyms having the latest fitness equipments and also different courts for Volley Ball, Badminton, Basket Ball and Table Tennis.

The students are required to vacate the hostel rooms in their summer vacations to facilitate annual repairs, white washing, etc.

All the students residing in hostels are to abide by the regulations/ rules of the hostel and mess.

 

Alumni Association

The Alumni program promotes, strengthens and supports the important connection between the alumni and the Institute and highlights their achievements or endeavors in various fields.

Through numerous Alumni Association programs, alumni can stay in touch with students, other alumni members, and the Institute at large. The association works not only for the reunions but also for the betterment of its alma mater and the Institute. Our old students, working with reputed companies, get back to their juniors and inspire them for their bright future.

Student Counseling & Guidance System

Utmost attention is given to all the students through class counseling system, with a greater degree of personal touch. Class counseling plays the most important role in effective functioning of all the institutions of CGC. Students, after getting admission to Undergraduate and Post-Graduate degree programs, are assigned to different teachers for their counseling and guidance. Class counseling system is programmed to develop overall personality of the students and also to solve various problems faced by them during their degree courses. The most experienced and skilled faculty is appointed as class counselor to get the desired effect. All the classes are divided in different groups, each one comprising of 30 students, for class counseling purposes. There is a provision of class counseling lecture in the time table (one lecture per week to all courses), in order to give them sufficient time to interact with their class counselors. The class counselor keeps each and every record of the students of his/her group till the end of their degree course. Semester Progress Report of every student, including monthly attendance and sessional /University result is sent to their parents by their respective class counselors. The class counselors remain in touch with the parents to keep an eye on the day to day progress of the students. The class counselors also inform the students about various opportunities & avenues waiting for them after completion of their degrees. They also provide help and guidance to the students regarding foreign study and various scholarships, with the help of the Department of higher study.

Cafeteria / Canteen

Chandigarh Group of Colleges boasts of its eateries in the campus. There is state of art canteen which is spacious and provides entirely hygienic food that caters to the taste of all students and staff members as well. It is well maintained with efficient service and a take away counter. For interstitial munching and snacks college has a ‘SIP n BITE’ corner and a ‘Café Day Express Shack’. Food as well snacks are available at nominal rates. There is separate seating arrangement for the students and the staff members.

Medical Care and Health Services

A full time Medical Officer In Charge-cum-ENT specialist renders round the clock service to all the students and staff members. An ambulance is always available in the campus in case of any emergency. A team of registered medical doctors is on the panel of the college. Students, staff and faculty can utilize these services as and when required. Regarding the major hospital facilities, we have tie ups with two leading hospitals in the region:

National Service Scheme

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Club is organized to have an effective involvement of the students in making their education socially relevant. The Club not only seeks to make the teaching purposeful and meaningful, but also to sensitize the members of CGC who are privileged to contribute their part for the good of society. The realization that the educational system should actively contribute towards the benefit of the masses and should not remain a prerogative of few has grown fast in recent years. The NSS Club has opened new vistas and has offered unique opportunities to make our students instruments of change and development in society. The NSS Club organizes special camps like blood donation camps, cleanliness drives, etc. in nearby villages. Inter-college & National Integration camps are also arranged to make youth interact with each other and share their skills. These camps also include lectures by experts, group discussions & demonstrations (with the help of Audio Visual aids) for increasing the capacity of students to learn the art of communication & numerical skills. The major objective of such trainings is to provide education and latest information by using the latest methods of Information Technology, such as internet & others and then to create practical and meaningful awareness, with an objective of generating consciousness and concern for the prevailing social.

Photography & Arts Club

We at CGC ensure to tap the artistic capabilities of our students. Photography and Arts club provides the podium to bring out the artists inside by organizing various programs, exhibitions and competitions. Students & teachers participate with full fervor and gist to make these activities a success. The much awaited arts and photography exhibition is held every year in the month of March.

Other General Activities

 

Bus /Travel facilities: The College provides the bus facility for day scholars & staff members. Buses operate on different routes for adjacent places like Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula, Patiala, etc. In addition to this, Private & Public Transportation is also available which covers almost all the adjoining areas of Landran.

 

Book Shop: The institution has a book shop that provides all desired books & stationery needed by the students.

Recreational Facilities: The College aims at providing suitable platform for recreational and social activities to have all round development of the students. The faculty keenly interacts with the students in all extra curricular activities. An auditorium with a seating capacity of 200 is provided for holding staff and student functions, workshops, seminars, etc. The hall is well equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual and presentation tools. The college band is one of the active groups among other recreational clubs. The group is provided with a separate room equipped with the latest instruments like electric guitar, acoustic guitar, electronic key board, drum set, congo, harmonium, tabla, sound amplification system, etc. The band is an active and effective participant of inter-college and intra-college activities. 

 

Internet Facilities: The broad band internet facility with the speed @ 4Mbps is available to the students round the clock, in the whole campus. Each and every department has got its separate well equipped internet labs providing high speed connectivity to the students. Students can use these labs after the college timings also. The whole campus, including hostels, is having the internet facility with the backbone of 4Mbps through Wi-Fi.

Student Discipline

In order to maintain discipline & decorum in the institution, the students are expected to reflect morality, discipline and mutual sense of honor under all circumstances, as  is demanded from good citizens. The institution reserves the right to drop any student whose conduct is deemed improper or abysmal to the order and interest of the institution.

The serious cases of indiscipline are referred to the Discipline Committee.

Ramesh Inder Singh, IAS, chief secretary to Govt. Punjab was the chief guest for the event. Annual day celebrated successfully on 17th March, S. Sukhbir Singh Badal-President Shromani Akali Dal was the chief guest. Fast Track Selection Drive of Indian Air Force Concluded Successfully. Sonalika International Tractors Limited & HDFC Bank conducted interviews at CEC, Landran. Indian Air Force held Campus Placement Drive at CEC; Satyam selects 550 students during campus recruitment in CEC; Tech.
